Farewell

This has been a bit of a rough week for my family. We were supposed to head to Kauai, Hawaii with my parents on Tuesday of last week when we found out that my Grandma Libby passed away. We immediately canceled our trip and headed to New Mexico to be with our loved ones. I'd like to share a little something written by my brother, Eric:

"As a well spent day brings happy sleep so a life well spent brings happy death. With love i am happy you embark on your new journey, always in my thoughts and prayers may you rest in the peace you greatly deserve Gramma Libby..."

I think it is so fitting for the circumstances. Although we will miss her terribly, we are so happy she is finally at peace.

Happy 4th of July!

We had a great 4th of July with Quinn! Last year she was way to little to be able to know what was even going on, so this year Jaime really wanted to take her to see some fireworks. It was great! More on that later...

We started the day with a nice long trip to the neighborhood pool which wore Quinn out enough to take a 3 hour nap! We then went over to some great friends of ours, Scott and Cassie, for a nice BBQ! Quinn had a blast and developed a love hate relationship with their little dog, Lex. She was enthralled by him but once he got a little too close she wasn't so sure after all. By the end of the BBQ, she was letting him kiss (lick) her hand. I am so disappointed that I didn't remember to bring my camera to capture some of these funny moments!

The golf course in our neighborhood was hosting a big fire work show but we didn't want to actually go the course because we knew it would be really packed and we weren't sure how Quinn would take the loud noises of the fire works. So instead we drove to the end of our neighborhood and watched from there. We weren't the only ones with this idea, there were several other families who did the same. The light show turned out to be pretty amazing! We actually got to see the light show in Cedar Park and the one in Leander at the golf course from where we parked. Quinn loved the fireworks and kept saying "more" once one was finished. Here are some pics of the fun night:
Walking around outside before the fire work show.

Quinn also enjoyed a very fun 4th of July play date last week at her friend Leah's house. Here are a few pics:
I love it how they're all just looking at eachother!

My New Live-In Maid!

Well....I wish. Quinn is the next best thing to a maid though! Here are a couple of pictures where she is helping me clean. She is so cute- she'll grab a duster or rag and start wiping something down while saying "clean". Too funny!

Summer Days

We have really been enjoying our neighborhood pool this summer. It is right around the corner from our house and is perfect for these really hot and humid days. I like taking Quinn for a little mid morning swim. She's all about it too. When we arrive at the entrance to the pool she is always screaming with excitement and says "Water, water!!". So today we got her all ready to go swim and arrived at the pool to find out it opens at 10 and it was only 9:30. Quinn was SOOOOO angry when we turned around to leave! She looked pitiful! We took her to a nearby playground and let her run around for a while. This is why she (and Jaime and I) is in her swimsuit in these playground pictures.

We love our family time on weekends and only wish we had more time with all three of us!

We have a walker!!

So we were beginning to wonder if Quinn would ever walk on her own, she seemed to only want to walk when holding our hands or pushing her little stroller. Well today she finally began on her own! She can walk so well that she's already almost running!! We think she was just tricking us and really could walk all along. Either that or she just got lots of really good practice using her baby stroller every day. She is just so excited to finally be able to do this on her own and is traveling all over the house. Independence. Am I really ready for this??

And a Happy Belated Father's Day to Jaime too!! We had a very nice Father's Day. We drove back from Jaime's yearly regional meeting in Montgomery, TX. We left Quinn here with Jaime's parents and we have to say we really enjoyed our time away! I was a bit anxious about leaving Quinn as it was the first time in her life that we were away, but she had a fabulous time! She had no problems sleeping, eating or doing any of her other normal daily activities. This makes us feel so much more comfortable about leaving her with his parents while we are in Hawaii, which is only ten days away- yikes! Anyway, back to Father's Day. Quinn gave Jaime a very nice briefcase for work which he desperately needed. We then went to his parents home for a nice BBQ. We can't thank our lucky stars enough for being so blessed with a dedicated, sensitive, humorous, hardworking, loving father and husband. Thank you Jaime!

Update

Just a few things that Quinn has started saying now: She is still a little parrot and repeats anything we say. Lately she has been saying "Honey" and will repeat it over and over while she's playing or eating. It is so funny! She also loves to pick up my cell phone and say "Hello, hello, Elmo?". She is using the word and sign for "help" now, which we tried to teach her to replace a really annoying whine she developed when she couldn't do anything she needed help with.

She says~
Juice sounds like shoosh
Cracker sounds like caca (funny, I know!)
Ham
Pancake sounds like pacake
Car sounds like caa
Truck sounds like chuck
Shoes
Bus

On the eating front, she is still eating like a champ. She eats pretty much whatever we fix for dinner. Some of her favorite meals are lasagna, chicken parmesean, chicken quesadillas, and of course the standard kid favorites: grilled cheese, macaroni and cheese etc... She is still not a big lover of milk so for now we're giving her lots of yogurt and cheese to make up the healthy fat she is missing in the milk.

We are also very blessed that she is a fan of sleep! She goes to bed at about 7 pm and wakes in the morning between 7 and 7:30 am. She takes a nap at 9 am and another at 1 pm. I think we'll be phasing out that morning nap in the next couple of months but we're in no hurry. She seems happy with the way things are now, so why change it?

And on the walking. Still not walking! I know that she can since she can do a full on run with her stroller. This will happen eventually, and again we're not pushing it or worried about it.

Quinn is such a little peanut. Literally. She barely weighs 20 lbs. and is in the 25th percentile in that area. 40th percentile in height. She countinues to grow normally, just a little bit smaller than other kids her age. Guess she'll be taking after her Momma. My parents used to call me "Little Pinon" since I was so little as well. (BTW a pinon is a nut found on pine trees)

Here are some pics of Q in action lately:

Quinny and her two love: sunglasses and books

She loves this soft little blanket and likes to be tucked in to it

Quinn got this cute little hula bikini from her cousins Bo and Troy, love it!
